Konark Festival



The World Heritage Monument, “Sun Temple of Konark” lays just about 35 kms from puri. This temple is the hard effort of Twelve hundred craftsmen who took around 12 long years to erect this monumental wonder. This temple is modelled after the floating chariot of the mythical Sun God, which is quintessence of imaginative craftsmanship of ancient Odisha. The temple architecture was designed in such a way which depicts nostalgic times of Medieval Odisha .The look is like  twelve exquisitely carved stone wheels and seven galloping horses and the kings, queens, generals, foot soldiers, sages, priests, elephants, horses, courtiers and courtesans depicted on the walls and the panels .

The Annual Konark Festival, which is held in an Open Air Auditorium every year with the temple as the backdrop. It is a showcase of magical parade of India’s classical and traditional dance forms. Eminent dancers and their troupe delight visitors are the major attractions in this auditorium. 
Besides, the dance performances the visitors also visit an exhibition of Odishan temple sculptures which are often described as poetry transcribed on stone. Sand Art exhibition is also another attraction for tourists.
 It is a festival of classical dances of India performed at the backdrop of the Sun Temple, Konark which is being organised for a period of 5 days i.e. from December 1-5 every year. The main objective of Konark festival is to promote Konark as well as Odisha as a tourist destination.

Day 01 – Bhubaneswar-Puri :
Morning after breakfast visit to famous city temples including Lingaraj, Parsurameswar, Mukteswar (know as the ‘gem of Odishan architecture’ ) & Rajarani temple.Drive to Puri enroute visit Dhauli ( Budhist stupa/ peace pagoda ) , , Pipli ( the appliqué work village ). Evening visit of Lord Jagannath Temple (Non Hindus are not allowed) / Relax on the golden beach of puri. Overnight at Puri. 
Day 2 : Puri – Konark – Puri :
Morning drive to Konark to visit the Sun temple ( one of the world famous heritage site & famously known as Black Pagoda ). Enroute visit to Ramchandi temple & Chandrabhaga beach (one of the finest beaches with a long stretch of clean sands & the beach has its own lovely serenity ). Return back to Puri. Evening visit to beach market. Overnight at Puri.

Day 3 : Puri – Chilika – Puri :
Morning drive to Chilika lake at Satpada ( largest brackish water lake ). Take the boat cruise to visit the Irrawaddy Dolphins & Rajhans Island . Return back to Puri/Bhubaneswar and drop for onwards journey.
